In early 2007, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension. From that point on, I have required supplemental oxygen on a 24/7 basis to survive. Initially, the only portable oxygen available to me was contained in the metal storage bottles. The oxygen supply – or, better said “time available” – in each bottle was very limiting. To go anywhere required quite a supply of these heavy little bottles.

It got to the point that I quit going out and simply dropped out of life. Going shopping or out to dinner was a chore, an overnight to Portland was almost out of the question. Way too many bottles were needed and to carry them in the car felt unsafe. Then, when I really needed to travel to see my brother prior to his passing, Sound Oxygen Service suggested that I try the Evergo system – a small, portable concentrator on wheels. It is powered by rechargeable batteries, household 120 volt (also used while the batteries are recharging), and an automobile’s 12 volt system.

Suddenly – my world has opened up. Now, there aren’t any travel restrictions. In fact, last year I went to Mexico. To power my Evergo Concentrator, I used automobile 12v power to get to the airport, battery power to get through the airport and on the airplane while in flight, replaced the batteries and continued on in the taxi to the timeshare, and once inside the condo plugged into house 120v power to keep the portable unit operating while recharging the batteries. No travel restrictions – not even on the airlines – I have my life back. Every where I go someone will stop me to inquire about the concentrator and they are amazed at the size and portability of the unit. Many have had loved ones pass on before it became available and wish it had been around to help them.

I appreciate all the help Sound Oxygen for getting me set-up with all my BiPAP gear. I especially appreciate all the time and effort you guys took in getting me fit with the right mask. It’s amazing how patient you were with me during that period. I don’t believe without the initial service provided by you that my therapy would have been as successful. I would highly recommend to anybody that is considering a provider for CPAP or Oxygen equipment to go see SOS. The only way to benefit from the use of CPAP is to use it, and you’re more likely to use your equipment if you have the proper fit and have your concerns answered by the knowledgeable and caring staff. You would think that all Doctors would insist that there patients go see you as you are an extension of their medical care.

After years of never feeling completely rested, I figured that life would always be tough in the mornings. After reading information about sleeping disorders and sleep labs, I felt it was worth a try. After visiting the lab, I got in contact with Sound Oxygen to fill my prescribed need.

That same day, Sound Oxygen’s Respiratory Therapist came to my home and set me up with a state of the art CPAP machine that is easy to use. Sound Oxygen made my transition to CPAP easy. They custom fit my mask and followed up on my progress.

I visited my doctor in November of 2006 because I wasn’t sleeping well and often woke up with headaches. My doctor suggested I do a sleep study, which later confirmed I had sleep apnea. That’s when I contacted Sound Oxygen Service.

They quickly contacted the hospital to obtain my sleep study results and determine my needs. All the while, I was dreading using a CPAP machine–I just couldn’t imagine how wearing a mask at night would ever help me sleep. Then, a Sound Oxygen consultant came to my house to deliver my equipment and several mask options for me to try. They ensured I found a mask that fit me properly and comfortably. Still, I was skeptical. But after a week or so, I noticed I was feeling more rested in the morning and didn’t have the headaches. Who would have thought?

It’s been 3 years now since I made the call to Sound Oxygen and they continue to take excellent care of me. From getting me set up with my machine, to making sure I receive a new mask every six months, they handle it all. In fact, when I was gearing up for a hunting trip and realized I wouldn’t be able to sleep without my CPAP, I contacted my Sound Oxygen rep who hooked me up with an adapter to run my machine off of a 12 volt battery. Sleeping’s never been so easy!
